The Miss Universe 2015 pageant had a scandalous ending, when host Steve Harvey crowned the wrong Miss. The blunder triggered overwhelming amount of responses in support and against Harvey.

Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as Miss Universe 2015 on Sunday. The Miss Universe 2015 is actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who was called up as first runner up.

Taking into consideration the sheer volume on responses Harvey's blunder triggered, this was the most awkward moment in pageant history.

Steve Harvey took full responsibility for his blunder right during the end of the broadcast on Fox. He apparently just made a plain mistake. The host showed the card that clearly states the 2nd and 1st runner up and on a separate page the Miss Universe. It appears that he just blanked out that right side of the card.

Entertainment Tonight reports that the problem with the cue card could have been avoided. A source told ET that Harvey missed a crucial part of the Miss Universe rehearsals. He did not go through the end. If he had done that, he would have known where the card states the Miss Universe winner.

I still believe its the blunder is the best thing that happened to the Miss Universe pageant. An unofficial video of the portion that shows the awkward moments of the Miss Universe 2015 broadcast went viral and has reached close to 14 million views. You can watch this video below.

The scandal triggered several conspiracy theories. Did the producers stage the blunder? Was there a wrong teleprompter message to confuse Harvey? Nothing is confirmed. I believe the explanation ET reported about is the most likely explanation for what happened.

Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has won, the blunder of Harvey does not change that.

This scandal takes some attention away from the Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, but she will be regaining that attention when things calm down. She also suffered some push back from Miss Colombia fans, including Sofia Vergara.

Donald Trump, former owner of Miss Universe pageant has a very "Presidential solution." He said on NBC's Today show: "Make them both Co-Winners."

26-year-old Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is a German-Filipina multi-talent. She is an actress, model, host, TV personality, chef, beauty writer, stylist and makeup artist. Now she is also a Miss Universe.

Bonus: The real full awkwardness can be seen in leaked video captures from the live show. See below Harvey interrupting the celebration of Miss Columbia to correct the situation and apologize.

The Miss Universe pageant was a joint venture between NBC and Donald Trump until September 2015. That month Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump bought out NBC's 50% stake. He then sold the whole organization on to WME | IMG.

IMG owns several global entertainment and fashion events, including more than 20 fashion weeks per year in cities including New York, Berlin, and Sydney; original lifestyle productions including this year’s “Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row” taking place at Madison Square Garden; and global lifestyle festivals including Taste Festivals and Lollapalooza.
