  • Little Toddlers are using Touch Screen Technology with Remarkable Avidity

It has been discovered by surprised parents and researchers alike that little toddlers are using touch screen technology with remarkable avidity. 2-year-olds are now ble to swipe, unlock, and actively search for features on phones and tablets.

Two year old boys and girls are very much capable of handling touch screen technology at the drop of a hat. This might seem close to an impossibility but the fact of the matter is it is 100% true.

They can swipe, unlock the technology and search for items online on tablets and smart phones. The study was published online. These tiny tykes tend to engage in child play. And thus they learn fast since they are avid enthusiasts for all things new.

Children show a remarkable level of development starting from the moment they are born. In fact, it may be that they respond to stimuli while still in the womb.

About 82 questionnaires were filled out by parents of children who ranged from one year old to three years old.

The smart phone technology especially plays an important role in the lives of contemporary kids. And they quickly become adept at using these instruments that Steve Jobs and Bill Gates introduced into our collective lives.

Parents of the tiny tots were asked whether their kids used the devices on a regular basis. Also they were queried as to whether the kids could unlock their smart phones.

Furthermore, swiping through the pics and employing and utilizing apps and games in the gadgets were abilities that got evaluated by the experts. The parents were asked whether they had downloaded any games for their kids.

Half of the toddlers were boys. The majority of the parents owned a device that their kids used on a daily basis. Most of them also gave their kids the devices without any worries.

Nine out of ten parents owned touchscreen devices and their kids could use the swipe facility with banal ease. Exactly half could unlock the gizmo with alacrity.

The average age at which the kids started using the devices was 24 months. Thus these 2 year olds sure knew how to get started with the techno-world of contraptions that were a source of wonder to them.

Many pediatricians have warned that the little boys and girls may see something that is not suitable for their age group on the gadgets. This of course is an ever-present danger. Also the lack of more natural means of child play are avoided via this intervention of technological aids.

"Interactive touch screen applications offer a level of engagement not previously experienced with other forms of media and are more akin to traditional play," researchers write.

"This opens up the potential application of these devices for both assessment of development and early intervention in high risk children."

Nevertheless, they caution: "Many applications designed for infants and toddlers already exist, but there is no regulation of their quality, educational value, or safety. Some of the issues that arise with passive watching of television still apply."

This study got published online in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.
