The record breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens is on track to become the fastest movie to reach $1 billion in ticket sales.

Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens is breaking one box office record after the other. The new Star Wars movie set a new all-time opening weekend record of $247.97 million, beating Jurassic World.

Now all eyes are on Star Wars breaking Jurassic World's record of fastest $1 Billion in ticket sales. Disney said in a statement on Saturday that the Star Wars box office revenue has reached $890.3million world-wide through Christmas Day.

It is expected that Star Wars will reach the magic $1 billion mark on Sunday, Dec. 27.

On the path to the Billion, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has set a new Christmas Day box office record domestically with close to $50million.

Disney landed a huge hit with Star Wars. According to Disney's CEO Bob Iger, the movie studio did not expect it to become this big. “It’s bigger than big,” Iger said in an interview with Bloomberg TV on Dec. 21. “It’s bigger than we thought it would be.” Iger also said that Star Wars could still get even bigger. New box office numbers will be released today, that will likely confirm that Star Wars has reached $1 billion in 12 days, which would be 1 day faster than Jurassic World.
