It has been found that Christmas and New Year’s Eve may lead to greater chances of mortality.

Those stuck in the cardiology department due to ailments at Yuletide and Happy New Year sense the palpitations of their hearts during the time. It is eerily quiet. And then the sounds of celebration begin!

It has been found that the Christmas season and New Year’s Eve are a time of many deaths due to complications. Cardiovascular disease takes many lives during this otherwise festive season of merrymaking. This is in contrast to the other periods of the year.

The spike in deaths must have some sort of reason behind it. 53 million people were studied from 1973 to 2001, according to HuffingtonPost. Especially on December 25th, the deaths simply skyrocketed.

Following this, the date of January 1st is a close second as far as deaths due to CV diseases are concerned. Many people die in the ER or even before making it into the ER.

And this death rate at this particular time of the year has been increasing with the passage of time. There are a number of reasons why people die during the holiday season.

One of the factors behind the mass deaths is the cold weather. The frigid freezing temperatures cause a series of changes in the vital statistics that leads to heart failure. And the effect of the colder temperatures seemed to be a constant all over the United States.

Then there is the issue of respiratory infections which play their role in the deaths. The changes in dietary patterns with large meals being scarfed down at the holiday season is another ingredient in the mix.

When people gorge themselves on huge quantities of rich food that is a delight to eat, they load their digestive systems and clog their arteries more than is suitable for a healthy status.

Liquor consumption is one more spanner in the works that works against optimal health. When party goers consume bottle after bottle of whiskey or wine, the results are definitely not pretty.

Alcohol consumed beyond moderation is a poison for the liver and the entire biological system. People often lack the sense to consult a doctor upon the appearance of the slightest symptoms.

So pretty soon complications arise and they suffer the consequences of not looking after their health. Heart attacks and strokes are a common scene around the Christmas season. And care is always better than cure. So it is better to take precautions.
