It was one of the most requested gifts for under the tree this year, but Amazon is no longer going to sell them. Thanks to safety issues with hover boards (essential self-balancing scooters), the retailer has stopped all sales, including those by Swagway, the leading producer of the famous boards. According to Northern Californian, the company has proved itself in the past, but Amazon is taking all precautions.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US is currently investigating at least 11 cases of fires that were caused by hover boards in the last year. The product is said to be more susceptible to caused fires since producers and suppliers install low-priced, cheap quality lithium ion-batteries. Many people have also been injured after crashing while using them.

That's in addition to the fact that, according to Forbes, several airlines do not allow hover boards as carry-ons. Airlines, including Alaska Airline, United, Delta Airlines, and American Airlines, do not want them on their planes in case they cause a fire.

Overstock.com has also pulled the items from their website, pending an investigation.

If you received a hover board for Christmas or other holiday celebrations, there are some ways that you can save yourself a lot of time and grief. You can replace the battery that comes standard with the hover board with one that is of higher quality. Many retail establishments are also offering up refunds for hover boards due to the concern of fire.
