Under instructions from Congress, NASA is to construct a deep space habitat for Mars two years from now.

It’s Mars or bust! NASA just got lucky when after eons of stingy behavior, Congress finally opened its purse strings. The space agency will be receiving a budget that will put an excess of $1.3 billion in its coffers.

This will be for future plans. 2016 is the expected date when the money will get transferred. A large amount from this budget will be allocated to the Mars mission which is due two years from now.

At least $55 million of the budget is to be put towards building a deep space habitat that will serve as the barracks of astronauts on the Red Planet. The overall budget is $93 billion which is indeed a whopping amount. Exploration is the goal here.

NASA has until 2018 to form a good enough habitation module, according to SpaceNews. Also within the next four months or so, NASA must assemble a report on the matter for perusal by Congress.

NASA will launch a mission to Mars by 2030. But that is a long way off and the preparations are taking place at a leisurely pace.

The cislunar testing (that will take place between the earth and the moon) will start in 2020. Among the list of other firms that NASA is working with may be included: Bigelow Aerospace, Boeing and Orbital ATK.

Habitat designs are being scanned in a very scrupulous manner. Congress however wants the process to take place at lightning speed since it expects quick returns on its investment.

NASA’s habitation module may mold the fine art of deep space travel for the next few decades. It is a dynamite project that will revolutionize space exploration as we know it.

However, as yet, little knowledge has been leaked regarding this venture and how its nuts and bolts will be manufactured.

It is not the time to divulge everything. NASA, like another high tech firm that goes by the name of Apple Inc., is pretty much keeping things under wraps for now. As soon as the plans are chalked out, the results will be put on display before the public.

While NASA does not like to work in secrecy, some things are best left a mystery all the better to pique the appetites of the citizenry. NASA is just beginning its exploration missions and the next century will hopefully see the colonization of the solar system.
