With the desire and the increase in the number of people using its SYNC connectivity system, Ford Motors is introducing the system together with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G LTE, and various AppLink apps to new cars so as to help consumers remain connected from within their cars and outside of their cars.

“SYNC allows customers to bring the smartphone technology they’re comfortable with into a vehicle and use it without hassle,” said Don Butler, Ford executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services. “With SYNC, we move at our customers’ pace – making it easy for them to maintain a connected lifestyle no matter their choice of smartphone, apps or services inside and outside their vehicle.”

There are over 15 million vehicles already equipped with SYNC on public roads, and a total of about 43 million are expected before 2020. With Ford Smart Mobility, consumers can enjoy the best of communications and entertainment technology as the automaker prepares itself for high-end connectivity, mobility, self-driving vehicles, enhanced consumer experience, data and analytics among others.

As from 2016, car owners having vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 will be able to do wonders with their smartphones while using their vehicles. To this end, iPhone owners can activate Apple CarPlay while Android smartphone users activate Android Auto with cars already installed with the SYNC 3 technology.

Also, the latest SYNC Connect system made possible by 4G LTE will enable equipped car owners to access their car features remotely; and to this end, car owners will be able to program their car functionalities such as starting the car remotely, opening the doors, checking fuel level, or checking on the location of a parked car via enabled smartphones.

Ford announced that starting from 2017, all vehicles in North America with the SYNC 3 technology, starting with the all-new Ford Escape, will be fully equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Car owners with 2016 models having the SYNC 3 will also be able to upgrade this later within the year.

Ford intends that by 2020, over 20 million customers around the world will have complete access to the SYNC Connect technology via their enabled vehicles and smartphones.
