NAIAS 2016: Nissan TITA XD Named North American Truck/Utility of the Year Finalist
  • The winning vehicle will be named at a special ceremony held at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January

The nomination is another honor for the Nissan TITAN XD which previously received the Truck of Texas award.

The Nissan TITAN XD has been named as one of the Truck/Utility of the year finalists by the NAIAS 2016. The award 2016 North American Truck/Utility of the Year (NATOY) is another honor for the Nissan truck.

Previously the Nissan TITAN XD won the Truck of Texas award. The Nissan TITAN XD is one of three finalists for the prestigious award in North America. The winner will be announced at a special ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The 2016 Nissan TITAN XD has been available for sale since December 2015.

“To understand the full significance of the North American Truck of the Year award you have to look at the cumulative depth of knowledge of the jurors, who represent major magazines, television stations, radio stations, newspapers and websites,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, U.S.A., Nissan North America, Inc.

The 2016 Nissan TITAN XD full-size pickup was nominated by an independent self-funded jury. The jury is made up of a group of automotive journalists belonging to the US and Canada.

According to the NAIAS the new TITAN XD offers powerful towing and hauling capabilities. The capabilities are closer to larger, more expensive heavy-duty trucks.

But the Nissan TITAN XD still provides a comfortable ride. 11 semi-finalists were evaluated for the award using a ballot based method. The cars were evaluated for their dollar value, innovation, handling, performance and safety.

“This new TITAN XD offers powerful towing and hauling capabilities closer to larger, more expensive heavy-duty trucks, while at the same time providing the ride comfort and affordability of a half-ton pickup,” added Diaz.

“It’s a combination you won’t find in any other truck on the market today, something that is referred to as the ‘every duty’ pickup.”

According to Nissan to be named one of three finalists is a tribute to the attributes of Nissan. The bold new design of the Nissan TITAN XD is a combination of a heavy-duty hauler with a light-duty pickup.

The TITAN XD features a powerful 310-horsepower Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel. Similarly a heavy-duty 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission is present. The Nissan TITAN XD also has towing capacity of more than 12,000 pounds.

The NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) will last from the 16th to the 24th of January, 2016.
