Glenn Frey, who was the lead guitarist of the Eagles, passed away at 67 years of age. He died from complications including a bout of pneumonia.

Glenn Frey died in the Big Apple. He had rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and pneumonia. His family members and band mates were in grief over his sudden death.

They spoke of how words were not enough to convey the sense of loss and sorrow they all experienced upon his passing away. They loved and respected him beyond measure.

The Eagles, the band of the 70s, that Glenn was the lead guitarist of, had many hit singles including Hotel California. Frey was an important founder of the Eagles along with Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner.

Glenn Frey penned the lyrics to Hotel California with Don Henley, reported BBC. Other big ones such as Heartache Tonight and Lyin’ Eyes were also products of his fertile mind. The Eagles were quite a phenomenon in their times.

They were on a par with other bands such as the Rolling Stones and the Doors not to mention the Beatles. With over 150 million albums sold globally, they seemed to have had it made. And Hotel California was their magnum opus.

As a 70s rock band, the Eagles were a force to reckon with. They made waves and left an indelible impact on the music of their era. Glenn Frey was one of the main songwriters for the group.

Like John Lennon served as a foil to Paul McCartney in the Beatles, Glenn was the counterpart of Don Henley in the Eagles. Their song Take It Easy sure was a stress-free song and Glenn wrote it. His tone of expression was the opposite of Don Henley’s grating, gravel voice.

Frey was a family man at heart. He himself told the press that “as long as I take out the garbage, clean up after the dogs and take the kids to school, I’ll have perspective.”

But the band faced troubled times and split up. In Glenn’s own words, the flash point came with Hotel California. The pressure was too much to take. And so amid creative differences the members split up.

After Glenn’s demise, Henley spoke of how the man was like a brother to him. He was like family and like most families there was bound to be some dysfunctional stuff brewing within.

After the Eagles disbanded in 1980, Glenn enjoyed a period as a solo singer. His hit single “The Heat is On” was chosen for the OST of the film Beverly Hills Cop.

In the mid 90s, the Eagles reunited much to the surprise and delight of so many of their fans. Today, upon the death of Glenn, every true music lover is in mourning. He will be missed for his contribution to musicology and for his warm temperament as a wonderful human being.
