Drones are being used by citizen scientists to map floods that have been caused by El Nino.

Selfies are a thing of the past. Off the coast of California, many natives are taking aerial views of the lay of the land to get a better feel for the damage done by El Nino.

All tech freaks will be out to catch a picture or two of the coastal flooding and soil erosion caused by El Nino. The winters in California were pretty moist this time around. The official images of the chaos wreaked by El Nino will lend clues to the experts about the future weather conditions.

The latest drones produce 3D maps that are high resolution images to boot. They will be used to predict coastal flooding patterns, reported Digital Trends. The models built to simulate these patterns will help immensely in the art of weather forecasting.

The future is now and a brief glance at it might prove to be worth it. The crowd-sourcing involved in this project of aerial drone viewing will see to it that the scheme is completed.

Many man-made projects will be at risk once the storms and floods strike in California. So steps must be taken to minimize the damages when they do occur.

Already the stuff that is emerging points the way to a picture of how the sandy and sunny beaches of California will look like a century from now.

However, the exact nature of the natural disasters that will take place is not known with surety just yet. The citizens working on helping out the professional scientists are doing the best they can.

But the best is not good enough. The 3D maps generated via the drones are a form of state-of-the-art technology but the future is an erratic and irrational entity that resists all efforts at prediction.

Suddenly mobiles are part of the project and are not just another entity to take a selfie with. The climate change scientists may be amateurs, but they are as competent in their field as the professionals. It is drive, passion and curiosity that count on the road to solving the world’s problems.

Drones are the best thing we have around for miles to do this task for ordinary citizens. Climate change, being the hot subject on everbody’s lips nowadays, will need a solution on an urgent basis.

And so the ordinary citizens of California are lending a helping hand in the process of mapping the landscape and atmospheric terrain.
