The Nate Parker directed slavery drama about the slave revolution touched the hearts of the audience and received praise, in addition to a standing ovation.

The Sundance Film Festival is currently underway in Utah. As local directors come to present their work to the world and critics, movie lovers are also in for a treat with heartwarming movies full of raw and brilliant movies featuring the best that Hollywood can offer.

This Monday afternoon, the Eccles Theatre was in anticipation of the slavery drama ‘Birth of a Nation”. Even before the movie even started.

Nate Parker, the director-actor-producer of the movie received a applause from the audience, reported USAToday. According to Parker, it was the most emotional moment of his life and the movie has been his passion project for the past seven years.

There has been slavery dramas yes, with 12 Years a Slave and Njango unchained, we have seen the western standard of presenting slavery and accepted it as the true description.

No one wants to see the whole truth or the sever brutality of the truth which was inflicted on the slaves by plantation owners.

In Birth of a Nation, Nate Parker plays the part of a slave who was born and raised as a slave. He learned to read and as he grew up under his plantation owner Samuel (Arnie Hammer), he managed to marry a slave girl played by Aja Naomi King.

That was the same period that the plantation owner started to become harsh including Samuel inflicting unimaginable pain and torture. Nat Turner rallies the slaves to conduct a 48 hours long bloody revolution in 1831.

The movie has been shot diligently and addresses the root cause of racism in the American culture. The movie received s standing ovation, and a lot of praise. The entire lineup for the movie was there and they were excited as well.

According to Nate, we need to address the issues of racism in our society and all its truths.
