Sony Computer And Sony Network Combine Forces Under A New Entity, Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI) have revealed the creation of a new company, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) – which unifies the combined strengths of both companies under one single business entity with the single focus of marketing and expanding the PlayStation product globally.

SIE’s headquarters will be located in San Mateo, California even though it will operate offices in Tokyo and London – starting from Friday, April 1, 2016.

“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation® business,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Group Executive in charge of Network Entertainment of Sony Corporation.

“Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market. We will work hard to maximize corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise,” he added.

SCE was established in November 1993 but first launched the original PlayStation system in Japan in December 1994; while the SNEI started business in April 2010 to provide network services for PlayStation and other game-related services.

But SIE will be harnessing the vision and resources of both companies across their hardware, software, content, and rising network business to position the company for improved competiveness and expansion in all global markets.

SIE’s corporate strategy and financial target will essentially be to retain and expand customers engage with PlayStation, while increasing Average

Revenue Per Paying Users (ARPPU) and other building other sources of revenue for the Sony Group. The SIE will operate as the Game and Network Service arm of Sony Group, helping to expand global sales and operating income among other company targets.

Directors and members of the board of SIE are: Andrew House, President and Global CEO; Kazuo Miura, Deputy President; John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera, Deputy President; Kazuo Hirai; and Kenichiro Yoshida.
