Analyst says that Nintendo will release a new handheld gaming device as part of Nintendo NX.

The Nintendo NX is expected to be released in 2016. Nintendo is though keeping its next generation console under wraps. The Japanese gaming company has not said a single thing officially about the NX.

Whatever the NX is, it needs to be awesome to bring Nintendo back to the home video game market dominated by Sony and Microsoft. The Wii U could not replicate the success that Nintendo had with the Wii.

IHS analyst Hiroshi Hayase has given the rumor about the NX having a mobile gaming device of some sort more credibility. He said that Nintendo is released a stand-alone portable gaming machine as part of the NX console. This new mobile gaming unit would have a screen-size of between 3.1 and 5.0-inches.

“We expect a small recovery in shipments of flat-panel displays for game devices because of Nintendo’s new game hardware expected to be released in 2016,” said Hiroshi Hayase at the firm’s display forum held in Tokyo according to the Wall Street Journal.

The new portable gaming device would be closer to the 3DS than to the Wii U tablet controller. He made no comments about the home console functionality of the NX. Will the full functionality be inside the mobile device or is, which is more likely, a docking station that houses a high power CPU, GPU and storage.

Nintendo will lift reveal the NX somewhen this year. There are not details yet when that will be.
