Elizabeth Banks to Play Villain in the New Power Rangers Movie

Elizabeth Banks joins the cast of the new Power Rangers as the villain witch Rita Repulsa.

Elizabeth Banks has been on the rise for the past few years as she featured in some hit film franchises including the Hunger Games as Effie White and in Pitch Perfect. She also directed the second Pitch Perfect movie. There’s no doubt that this blonde actress is making her mark in Hollywood.

It is time to set another benchmark in her career by playing a negative role in the remake of the Nick’s famous children and teenage fiction series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Elizabeth Banks took to her Twitter feed to announce that she will be joining the cast of Power Rangers with a picture of a smiling Elizabeth in what might be the poster for the upcoming movie.

The poster also announces the name of her character, Rita Repulse. As Power Rangers fans might know that Rita Repulsa was a witch who was also featured in the 1995 movie adaptation of the series.

The series is about five teenagers who get extra-terrestrial power to save the world. The cast of Power Rangers also welcomed Elizabeth to the project.

The young cast includes; Becky G. as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

Lionsgate and Saban Brands planned in 2014 to develop and produce a live-action movie based on Saban’s Power Rangers property as the first film in a franchise.

The film is being produced by Lionsgate and Saban Films. Haim Saban and Brian Casentini, along with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will serve as the producers while Allison Shearmur is the executive producer.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama have written the script for the movie. The movie will release in theatres on March 24th, 2017.
