  • RM Car Design release new illustrations of possible BMW i5 or i6 crossover!

The renderings show a crossover design consisting of a sloping roofline and the aero elements of i3 and i8.

RM Car Designs has released new renderings of the highly rumored BMW i5 Crossover or as some sources suggest an i6. The renderings were published in the Car Magazine.

The CEO of Car Magazine, Harald Krüger stated the designers were embracing the idea and sketches of a crossover. The designers are the design chiefs Klaus Fröhlich and Adrian van Hooydonk. The new renderings match the proportions of the Citroen DS5.

The illustrations show a crossover-like design with a sloping roofline. The design also features raised driving height, i8-like kidney grille and aero elements from the i3 and i8.

The design of the rear has some cues from the i8 hybrid sports car. Even the aero-designed wheels of the design match the i8. According to BMWBlog, the renderings show the possibility a new potential BMW i5 Crossover can have.

As is expected the new i6 will likely be packed with the latest and greatest tech developed by BMW. Most probably the iDrive generation 6, more efficient batteries and a third new architecture will be included.

It is a big possibility the new FSAR architecture/platform will be included. The platform features a flat floor above a sandwich section to be filled with batteries. The platform can easily stretch or shrink.

The unknown factor may the choice of drivetrain. The possible i5 may be a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV), hybrid or fuel cell. If made the i5 will need to be produced for 60,000 units a year.

So it is a big possibility the material of the car will be mixed including carbon fiber. If made the i5 will be released sometime in 2020.
