Her name is E’Layah Faith Pergues and she was born with a 5 ½-month pregnancy, arriving 14 weeks earlier than expected. But she made it against doctors’ worst fears, and now she will be discharged from hospital to go home, ABC News reports.

That is the story of the smallest baby in the world who was born prematurely sometime ago. Her mother is Megan Smith, whose high blood pressure during pregnancy and the misfortune of suffering two strokes led the doctors to perform an emergency Cesarean section to save both mother and child.

"Our goal since her birth was to grow her as quickly and as safely as we could," said Dr. Andrew Herman, MD, neonatologist and chief medical officer at Levine Children's Hospital. Little E’Layah was fed with a combination of formula and breast milk to help her grow and stay healthy.

The little baby is now 5 months old and weighing 5 pounds and 7 ounces, and doing good enough to be taken home from the hospital. She is now almost 10 times the weight of birth.

"She is a very busy little lady, always grabbing and pulling things and moving around," Smith said. "We are all very excited to be going home. It's been a long journey and we are looking forward to the next chapter. E'Layah is our miracle baby girl."
