The next chapter in the Star Wars franchise will be released on the 15th of December, 2017.

The filming of the Star Wars: Episode VIII has officially started. The development was announced to the world through a special video. The official Star Wars: Episode VIII first scene was released showing that filming has started.

The video release was followed by official announcements regarding the upcoming film details. The cast of the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise has so far been confirmed. Even new additions and returning characters have been announced by the studios.

The next saga of the Star Wars franchise will show Rey as she continues her epic journey. In Star Wars: Episode VII we saw Rey entering the dynamics of the Galaxy far far away.

Now Rey will continue the journey started in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker. It was also announced the principal photography for Star Wars: Episode VIII began on February 15, 2016. The photography took place at the Pinewood Studios in London.

The upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII, will be written and directed by Rian Johnson. The upcoming film will continue the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film will welcome back cast members from The Force Awakens.

The main cast will include Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley. Similarly John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o and Domhnall Gleeson will reprise their roles. Even Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis’ return has been confirmed.

Disney previously also announced the Benicio Del Toro will feature in the cast of the next Star Wars. Del Toro is an Academy Award winning actor and newcomer to the franchise. Kelly Marie Tran will also join the line-up of the next Star Wars.

No further details have been revealed on the characters of the new cast member. It is expected that Del Toro will play a negative role in the Episode VIII.

Del Toro is best known for his roles in films such as ‘Traffic’ and Guy Ritchie's ‘Snatch’. Laura Dern will also join the cast of Star Wars: Episode VIII, which picks up from the 2015 film.

The upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. The executive producers of the film will be J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

According to Disney Studios some of the industry’s top talents will join the production crew. The crew will be including Steve Yedlin as the Director of Photography.

Similarly Bob Ducsay will serve as the Editor, while Rick Heinrichs will be the Production Designer. Peter Swords King has been announced as the Hair and Make-Up Designer, while Mary Vernieu as the US Casting Director.

Disney also announced Pippa Anderson will return as the Co-Producer and the VP Post Production. Similarly Neal Scanlan will return as the Creature & Droid FX Creative Supervisor.

While Michael Kaplan will return as the Costume Designer along with Jamie Wilkinson as the Prop Master. Other returning crew members include Chris Corbould as the SFX Supervisor, Rob Inch as the Stunt Coordinator and Ben Morris as the VFX Supervisor. Additionally Nina Gold will be the UK Casting Director for Episode VIII.

The 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke the $US2 billion mark for global box office receipts. It was also the third-highest grossing film in Hollywood history. The next film Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for a release date of December 15, 2017.
