A distinguished lady, doctor Sarah Parcak is the winner of the TED Prize for 2016. She happens to be a space archaeologist and grabbed the coveted $1 million prize.

A $1 million prize is awarded by TED to the person who brings about global change each year. Doctor Sarah Parcak has won this year’s prize and will use the money to open up a crowd sourced website.

The purpose of this website will be to uncover as yet unrecognized sites and spots on the face of the earth. Also any looting that takes place at existent sites will be pointed out by scientists in conjunction with Dr. Sarah.

This lady is no ordinary citizen. She is basically a space archaeologist who uses satellite images to identify certain algorithms that can lend assistance in finding man-made structures.

These monolithic structures are usually hidden from view. Her satellite mapping of Egypt has uncovered some 17 new pyramids, 1000 tombs and 3100 settlements.

Each winner of the TED prize must make a wish that he or she will fulfill with the prize money. Dr. Sarah wants to spend the money on archaeology. She has only one desire and that is to find out about the millions of unknown archaeological sites throughout the world, reported BBC.

Via the creation of a clique of global explorers, the heritage sites of the various nations of the world will be preserved for the benefit of the common public.

This is history being made right before our eyes. Sarah plans to let the public have access to satellite images and also tutor them on the fine art of finding new sites.

The ordinary citizens will be given a checklist to fill out. They can identify any strange things they have seen that might lend clues as to unknown sites.

And they will pinpoint imagery though they will not be told anything regarding the exact location of the imagery so as to offset any chances of looting taking place there.

The moment a certain amount of people corroborate a finding, it will be worth a gander by Dr. Sarah’s militia of archaeologists. The setting up of the website will be in the format of a game where identifiers will gain points and score.

This will generate healthy competition. She explained that the science of archaeology was at a turning point. ISIL was blasting away the heritage sites in Syria and Iraq and it was such a shame.

These precious sites had to be protected from these terrorists. It is almost like a losing battle and this is cause for sadness. Her platform will have personnel who will work day and night to offset this destruction with their constructive efforts. It is a race against time and one that she just might win.
