MWC 2016 : Most Expected and Most Speculated

While expectations keep on mounting we are revealing here some of the most credible speculations that are very likely to make news in the course of the event.

Mobile World Congress or MWC is unarguably the most important event for mobile technologies. A vast majority of the high end smartphone manufacturers take this occasion to reveal or launch their latest innovations and products amidst the great fanfare and global media attention. Almost everyone in the mobility landscape will have their eyes on this event which is scheduled to happen from 22nd and 25th of February, in Barcelona this year.

Following the established tradition from preceding years this year also we are about to witness many of the biggest launches of new smartphones and new device technologies. Though there can always be a switch of emphasis and tech trends, any death of surprises are very unlikely. While expectations keep on mounting we are revealing here some of the most credible speculations that are very likely to make news in the course of the event.

Samsung made it their habit to announce the new flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress. With its stature as the highest selling smartphone brand in the world, any new launch is a big event. This year we are expecting the launch of Samsung Galaxy S7 with lot of additions to its earlier flagship.

Though Galaxy S7 is likely to look similar to Galaxy S6, some design led changes are underway. The return of the waterproof and dust-proof technology in many of its earlier devices is very expected. S7 is likely to carry the Snapdragon 820 chipset replacing Samsung’s own Exynos.

With Google I/O scheduled to happen in May, it is very unlikely that the Android leader would make any breathtaking announcement here. But all kinds of Android partnership news and tie-ups for new products can be very much probable. If we have not forgot, Android Wear adopted few new partners last year at the event. We can expect similar moves, but obviously no major surprise from the grand dad of Android.

BlackBerry remaining silent about their mobile plans at CES 2016, is likely to target MWC for launching its new Android smartphone. A mix of touch and type in new candy bar phone expected to be unearthed as BlackBerry Vienna at this year’s event. It seems to be rather a budget Android device with a keyboard. There are some credible sounding rumors that BlackBerry may turn the Passport into an Android device as well.

HTC may finally leave the typical ‘One M’ nomenclature and name its upcoming HTC One M10 as HTC Performance and HTC O2. Besides valuable feature upgrades, more powerful processor is very expected with a Snapdragon 820 processor.

Microsoft after going through some important strategic moves like moving to Windows 10 and driving unification of all its devices on a single platform is likely to come up with the launch of couple of new devices similar to Lumia 650. There are also some speculations that the company may come up with advanced Lumia 750 or an 850.

Lenovo may find this event to announce leaving the Motorola brand instead of opting for the new Moto label. Besides coming with updates of Moto E, it can also come with important updates of Vibe brand of smartphones.

LG has already announced that it will launch the next flagship named LG G5 at MWC 2016. The LG G5 has continued to be subject of many rumors. Besides incorporating an overall change in design with modular look and metal body it is likely to offer new device feature like changeable battery and a new Magic Slot function. There are also rumors that LG V10 may come up with dual display.

At the MWC 2016, Huawei is likely to come up with a range of feature rich smartphones including the Honor 5X. Huawei P9 is also to arrive with a thinner design and a breathtaking 6GB of RAM making promise of an ultra fast handset.

Many of the world’s best known mobile devices are powered by Qualcomm chips and this year at the mega event the company is planning to launch the power packed Snapdragon 820 chipset.
