Kalamazoo Shooter Likely Arrested

A shooter that killed 6 people Saturday in Kalamazoo County Michigan is in police custody.

The nightmare of an active shooter in Kalamazoo County, Michigan is likely over. In breaking news, local station NewsChannel 3 reports that police has a strong suspect in custody.

Update: The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office named the arrested suspect in the shooting spree. The man is named Jason Dalton and is an Uber driver. WoodTV reports that the shooter took Uber fares during the shootings yesterday.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety just posted on Facebook: "Per Chief Hadley, possible suspect apprehended without incident in downtown Kalamazoo, based on fitting the description. This is a tragic chain of events for our community and we are diligently continuing the investigation to confirm if the correct person is in custody."

On Saturday a shooter has killed 6 people at random in Kalamazoo County. The shooter hit according to police 9 people, 6 of them are confirmed dead. He shot people driving around in a car. The first shooting of the three shooting incidents occurred around 7pm ET. Two of the shot people are kids. One 8-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl are among the victims.

The suspect is currently interviewed by police. There are no details yet about the motive. According to a new report, the suspect is a white man age 45. He is a resident of Kalamazoo County. He was driving a blue Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof).

The suspect surrendered without incident but had weapons in his vehicle, Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz said in a report of WZZM13. He was arrested 12:40 a.m. Sunday at Ransom and Porter streets.

The incident will again raise the issue of gun control in the United States. Many people take to Twitter under #Kalamazoo calling for stronger gun laws.
