Hyundai to Introduce All-New IONIQ Line-up at 2016 Geneva Motor Show

According to Hyundai the IONIQ line-up will electrify the convention with a live stream of the unveiling.

Hyundai will be introducing the All-New Hyundai IONIQ line-up at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. The line-up consists of three electrified models containing electric powertrains.

The three models are the IONIQ Hybrid, IONIQ Electric and IONIQ Plug-in. The line-up will be the world’s first model offering three electrified powertrains.

The IONIQ line-up will make low-to zero-emission mobility accessible. According to Hyundai the new line-up has an uncompromised design developed through innovative technology.

Jochen Sengpiehl is the Vice President Marketing at Hyundai Motor in Europe. According to Sengpiehl, for Hyundai IONIQ is an important step forward.

Hyundai is bringing a unique new approach to e-mobility with the IONIQ. The line-up does not compromise with design and driving pleasure while delivering electric powertrain. Hyundai will make IONIQ accessible to more customers by extending their product line-up.

“IONIQ is an important step forward for our brand in Europe. We are bringing a unique new approach to e-mobility, without compromising on design, driving pleasure and new connectivity features. And we’re making it accessible to more customers by further extending our product line-up,” said Jochen Sengpiehl, Vice President Marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe.

Both the IONIQ Hybrid and IONIQ Plug-in will feature the Kappa 1.6 GDI. The direct injection petrol, four-cylinder engine has a thermal efficiency of 40%. The Kappa 1.6 GDI engine delivers 105 PS and 147 Nm of torque.

The specially tailored engine also has a smooth shifting six-speed double clutch transmission. The electric motors of all the IONOQ models enable pure electric driving and deliver instant torque.

Hyundai claims the line-up provides an enhanced customer experience. Since the line-up is also equipped with state-of-the art connectivity features.

Features such as Android Auto, Apple Car Play, Tom Tom live and wireless charging. All the models contain a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster which displays important driver information.

“With our pioneering ix35 Fuel Cell electric vehicle and several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models sold around the world, Hyundai Motor already has a proven capability in electrified powertrains. Now, with the launch of our first dedicated model, we are taking the lead as the only car manufacturer with hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in production,” said Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe.
