Alicia Vikander has won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She had the talent and the tons of personality needed to pull off the deed.

She came on board the Academy Awards platform approximately three years ago. Alicia Vikander is a Scandinavian actress (she hails from Sweden). She participated in A Royal Affair which was a Danish movie.

She was not that well-known outside of Europe way back then, but today such is not the case. Sunday night at the Oscars ceremony, she grabbed an Academy Award for Best Supporting Role Actress which is quite a feat.

The 27 year old actress left the Dolby Theater with the golden statuette in her hand. In the film, she had played a character opposite Eddy Redmayne. She portrayed the wife of a painter who undergoes a sex change operation in the 20s in the movie.

After thanking her costar and the director of the movie, she pinpointed her mother in the crowd as the only person who had inspired the confidence in her to believe in herself. Without mom’s blessings, all this would not have been possible, said Vikander.

She has appeared in four other films. It has been a hectic schedule she has been following since the past 365 days. The movies include: Testament of Youth, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Burnt and Ex Machina.

The last of these movies was the one for which she received the most noticeable comments. She plays an android robot that seduces a human being. This showed the man-machine interface and raised questions regarding the limits of AI.

However, not everything has been peaches and cream for Vikander. She admits that she has difficulty being understood in America due to her native accent. This is so despite the fact that her English is flawless.

Vikander gets nervous too easily when under stress. And that has been her undoing in many an instance where the communication gap was too wide.

She said that culture matters and that the culture shock between ethnicities that were radically different made the language divide an issue that was simply irresolvable. She spent her childhood days in Gothenburg and now lives in London.

Vikander even considered entering the world of fashion for awhile. For a brief moment she was the face of Louis Vuitton. Michael Fassbender is her current boyfriend. Fassbender of course appeared in the biopic Jobs about the life and times of the Apple visionary.
