Stacey Dash was introduced onstage at the Oscars by Chris Rock. Her weird cameo appearance was one that needed some explaining later on.

Chris Rock introduced the Clueless star Stacey Dash at the Oscars and the remarks she made showed that she was a bit clueless as well. This occurred after the #OscarsSoWhite remakes were shown to the crowd gathered at the Dolby Theater.

Rock wisecracked that they had solved the problem of a lack of racial diversity at the Oscars. Then he went ahead and welcomed Stacey Dash onstage. He mentioned in passing that Stacey was the new director of the minority outreach program initiated by the Oscars execs.

As Dash sauntered into view, she appeared to be conspicuously snickering. She spoke of how she was desperate to help other minorities. She made a reference to Happy Black History Month.

There were a few subdued laughs from the audience which died down quickly. It was a very embarrassing moment especially for the sensitive people among the crowd as well as those watching from the vicinity of their living rooms. Many took to Twitter to voice their complaints against the act of defiance.

Yet Stacey later on clarified the whole issue in succinct terms. She spoke of how this was a form of reverse discrimination that was going on here. Black Americans and other ethnic minorities ought not to boycott the Academy Awards and they also needed to support Chris Rock.

By being overly thin-skinned regarding the race question, they were being unfair to White America and doing untold damage to their own cause.

Stacey further said that she was not exactly a hardcore Black American herself. She was a mixed breed and so she preferred to be a free spirit who wasn’t a stickler for rigid rules. Stacey expatiated on how they had to quit complaining and whining about how they had been taken advantage of.

Chris Rock did say this much as an afterword though that if you were a Black American, you had to go through thick and thin in order to land a role in a major movie. This was unfair to say the least.

Whoopi Goldberg was shown playing a cleaning lady in a scene who remarks that a skinny white lady would invent a mop and be picked for a role in a movie. Yet a black lady could find the cure for cancer and still have difficulty being selected for a role in a blockbuster.
