The UK government may be sued over the rising levels of pollution in the country. An environmental group is aiming its smear campaign against those in power in the Houses of Parliament.

The government of the United Kingdom seems to be in somewhat of a fix. An environmental pressure group by the name of Client Earth has upped the ante against the bigwigs in government for not stepping up anti-pollution measures.

The group’s leaders feel that the politicians in power, who live off the trust of the gullible public, are being very unfair in their efforts to curb pollution.

Now the group is up in arms against the establishment. It has issued a warning to the resident of 10 Downing Street, whoever that may be, to radically reduce air pollution or get ready to face a lawsuit in court.

The Supreme Court of the country gave an order for cleaner, greener and leaner thinking in reference to the environment in April of 2015. However, that ultimatum was ignored by the government. It took half-hearted steps and most of the ideas it tried to implement were half-baked in nature.

Client Earth has told BBC that the government is a lousy enabler of policies on a practical level. Most of its plans are either discarded after some time or never implemented in the first place. More needs to be done than merely engaging in language games.

Deeds, not words speak louder anytime and every-time. Client Earth has given a deadline that is ten days away. By the end of this time span, if the government still manages to take no new steps to clean up its act, the law’s help will be sought.

Pollution in the UK has reached dangerous levels. Especially, nitrogen pollution from diesel vehicles was wreaking havoc.

While many ministers have expressed concern over the dirt, soot and grime not to mention smog, the two billion pounds set aside for the task of providing a pristine environment seems to be rotting away in a bank somewhere.

Had the government acted sooner, things would not have come to the current state of affairs. The cars and the factories are adding to the levels of pollution and nothing is being done about it at all.

This is a crying shame. To pay no heed to the whole issue is a typical ostrich-like head-in-the-sand approach that is not up to the mark. Facing the matter head on would be a more brave and realistic strategy.
