Subaru Previews its Global Platform
  • Subaru previews its Global Platform to be used for all future cars!

The new Impreza is the first car based on the platform set to be released in the second half of 2016.

Subaru just released details about its ‘Subaru Global Platform’. The platform will be used by the Korean auto maker to make all Subaru cars in the future.

The new Impreza is the first car to be based on the Subaru Global Platform. The New Impreza will be released later in the second half of 2016.

According to Subaru the new platform features 70-100 percent greater rigidity, than the current models. The platform also has a stiffer chassis.

The stiffness means less vibration will travel through the vehicle to the steering wheel and seats. So as a result the drive will be easier. The new platform also claims to have a 40-percent increase in impact energy absorption, improving safety.

Subaru states the new platform lowers the center gravity by 0.2 inches, sharpening handling of the vehicle as a result. The sharpening also means the customers will have a more exciting drive from the future Subaru models.

Subaru has revealed their engineers now mount the rear stabilizer directly to the body. The mounting reduces body roll by 50 percent over current Subaru models. The platform also supports hybrid, plug-in, and EV drivetrains to adapt to future Subaru models.

Marking the launch of the new concept, FHI President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga said, “The Subaru Global Platform lifts Subaru’s automotive technology to new heights, and marks the next step in the evolution of “Enjoyment and Peace of Mind,” the value that Subaru offers to its customers. This new platform represents the culmination of the know-how we have developed over many years, and we are confident that it will allow us to produce vehicles that live up to our proud traditions and meet the high expectations customers have of Subaru. We continue to work on designing ever-more attractive vehicles that offer the customer both enjoyment and peace of mind.”

After the Impreza, Subaru is already working on developing other models on the new platform. The Subaru XV concept revealed in Geneva will also be developed on the new platform. Similarly the Subaru WRX will be developed on the same lines.
