Google's Artificial Intelligence DeepMind aka AlphaGo won against the best player on earth. Learn how to play Go to appreciate the historic event.

Google's AlphaGo won the first match against legendary Lee Se-dol (9-dan). This win of artificial intelligence over the best Go player of the past decade has surprised insiders. The Google DeepMind Challenge is not over yet. Lee Se-dol has four more opportunities to demolish AlphaGo to win the $1 million prize money.

If you don't know how the ancient game of Go works, there is a great online Go site where you can learn how to play Go in less than 5 minutes. I just tried it and it is very intuitive. It by far beats reading about the Go rules. The step by step guide explains everything from basic play to the Ko rule and scoring. After that quick introduction to Go, you can play games against a computer program on smaller than regular board.

When you feel comfortable, you can play against other players online at online-go.com. The site requires no sign up. You just chose a username and password and are ready to go - literally.

There are also a handful Go Gaming apps for mobile devices and tablets. A free Go App I just tested is Champion Go Entry Edition (iTunes). In the app you can play against a Go engine named Crazy Stone. In-App purchases let you play against a more powerful Go engine hosted on a server.

The Google DeepMind Challenge Match continues at 11pm ET tonight with Match 2.
