UPDATE: Apple has officially unveiled iOS 10 on June 13. Read our new iOS 10 Feature Highlights report.

As per the latest information received from Apple, iOS 10, the next generation operating system from the company is expected to launch soon. Obviously, with the majority of enhancements that can be expected in this release this is likely to be a big release for the flagship iPhone and iPad products of the company. Especially with the iPhone 7 awaiting release in next year, iOS 10 can be a pushing factor for the new device as well.

Let us have a look at the most rumored features, functions and capabilities of iOS 10, the next big OS release from Apple.

1. Device Compatibility

iOS 9 was great because it offered extensive support for older devices. Both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 just work fine with this latest operating system of Apple. But with iOS 10, we can expect a little change in this regard. As the iOS is likely to have richer features and functionalities it may require bigger RAM. As of now, the required capacity for iOS 10 is rumored to be equal or more than 512 GB of RAM memory. In spite of this we can easily assume that iOS 10 will support majority of iPhone and iPad devices including iPhone 6S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad Mini 4, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 2 and iPod Touch 5th Generation.

2. Customizable Control Center

The Control Center with iOS 10 is likely to offer customizable overlay of menu and few other customizable options. From using any icon for your desired shortcut to utilizing a different feature with the same icon all that can be possible. For instance, using the same clock icon for stopwatch or swapping the calculator icon as a shortcut to gallery, all this customization can be done in the control center.

3. iOS 10 Touch ID

Touch ID in iOS 10 is likely to offer faster and more accurate experience than it is now with the iOS 9 in iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. This is likely to be popular with most iPhone users as they push the home button to light up the phone only to see that all the push messages vanish before their eyes.

4. Siri

Siri has always been a highlight area for Apple and this time the company decided to improve this personal assistant. Enabling Siri for handling voicemails is one major expectation this time from this new release. In any case, Siri is obviously going to be more efficient with this upcoming OS release of Apple in 2016.

5. 3D Touch

3D Touch technology has been one of the most hyped aspects prior to the release of the iPhone 6S. Certainly it had put Apple way ahead than its competitors in smartphone segment. But in spite of the hype the 3D touch could not make a mark on the user mindset primarily because it has no bigger influence on the control center of iPhone 6. With the upcoming iOS 10 release this technology is likely to have a facelift and better control in every respect. As it is being widely rumored that Apple may completely eliminate the Home button in the iPhone 7, 3D touch will be more depended upon for operating the device.

6. Multi-user Compatibility

The latest update of iOS 9 offers split screen multitasking which is a requirement for the iPad pro. The Bluetooth keyboard support included in this new version has also garnered praise. But still a multi-user support and compatibility remained out of grasp from the ambitious users of the Apple users. In the next update it is very likely that Apple will address this long awaited and demanded capacity.

7. Apple Watch Tie-in

Another most important attribute of iOS 10 operating system is that it will make both the iPhone 7 and next iPad release to have easy compatibility and bond with the Apple Watch. 2016 is going to observe the launch of both iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2 and the combination can prove to be more complementing than ever.

8. Apple News

Apple News is a favorite for many Apple users for its Flip board like look and some useful publications. But it could not garner a widespread popularity yet. Many just avoid tapping on it. With iOS 10 Apple may give it a complete makeover with the positioning, look and contents.

9. Volume Control

The placing of the controls for volume is a source of dissatisfaction for many iOS device users, especially those having an Android device with better volume control options. Often lowering the volume while running a video, takes an exercise with the device rocker. Splitting the volume control in different groups is a good solution as shown by many Android devices and this time with iOS 10 Apple just can follow this.

10. Cache Problems

Caching remained as a consistent issue with the present iOS version and as expected, this can be solved with the iOS 10 update in next year. Due to these issues often bugs actually cause crashes and consequent detrimental effect on user experience. This happens particularly in changing orientation of the device from horizontal hold to a vertical grip or vice versa.

11. 3rd Party default Apps

How you would feel having your favorite and most popular apps just in the device home screen by default? Obviously, it is a great experience to find my Gmail, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and similar apps by default saving the time and data usage for downloading them. Yes, with default 3rd party apps would be a great boost to the ready usability of the device. Though it is still a speculation, but we can hope that from iOS 10 this is going to happen.

Lastly, we must say that in many regards the next iOS 10 update is going to offer a bigger and richer experience. As it is going to be the official OS for the iPhone 7, the most ambitious Apple device ever, this new OS is likely to be a killer in many respects. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 10 at the WWDC 2016. Apple has not yet announced the WWDC 2016, but it is likely going to take place in June again.
