ILMxLAB showed off a demonstration of a Star Wars virtual reality experience.

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and parent company Lucasfilm, Ltd created the ILM Experience Lab (ILMxLAB), a new division that will draw upon the talents of Lucasfilm, ILM and Skywalker Sound a year ago. This week ILMxLAB showed off what they are working on in a Star Wars Trials on Tatooine Virtual Reality Experiment.

Dan Brooks at StarWars.com had the opportunity to try Star Wars Trials on Tatooine Virtual Reality Experiment. He says in his description of the VR experience: "Now, the experiment really begins. You encounter the Falcon, watch as it lands right next to you (you might find yourself ducking as it descends, which is totally normal), and get a special gift from Artoo — a lightsaber, which you’ll soon get to use. That’s when Star Wars dreams really come true, and it is, in a word, transformative. It feels like a next step."

Watch the trailer of the Star Wars Trials on Tatooine Virtual Reality Experiment below. I only can judge the footage from the trailer, which looks not very convincing, but see for yourself.

ILMxLAB experiments with lots of different technologies to create the future cinema experience. The company is hiring talents and showed off what they are working on in the reel below. Hollywood is taking virtual reality very seriously and has begun to throw money at it. Lucasfilm is part of the movement with ILMxLAB.

UbiSoft announced yesterday that there will be an Assassin's Creed VR experience coming along with the Assassin's Creed movie with Michael Fassbender.
