LG and Bang & Olufsen make designer OLED TVs.

The Denmark based high-end consumer electronics maker announced a strategic partnership with LG Electronics. Under the agreement LG is making OLED TVs and provides WebOS smart TV technology to B&O. Design, acoustics and smart home integration comes from Bang & Olufsen.

The first Bang & Olufsen OLED TV made by LG is planned for 2017.

Bang & Olufsen is struggling and actually tries to find a buyer. The new partnership is will keep Bang & Olufsen at the forefront of TV technology and at the same time cut the development cost. On the other hand the margins have to be shared with LG.

"This partnership with LG will enable Bang & Olufsen to stay at the forefront of innovation in the TV category, a category which is currently undergoing significant change and which is very important to Bang & Olufsen. The partnership will address Bang & Olufsen's key challenges related to scale and complexity", says CEO Tue Mantoni.

LG does make very good looking TVs. The designers at Bang & Olufsen have to create real master pieces to differentiate from LG's OLED TVs.

Bang & Olufsen was founded in Struer, Denmark, in 1925 by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen, two innovative, young engineers devoted to high quality audio reproduction. Since then, the brand has become an icon of performance and design excellence through its long-standing craftsmanship tradition and the strongest possible commitment to high-tech research and development.
