Someone at the LG marketing department has a soft spot for action stars.

The LG Super Bowl 50 commercial, promoting OLED TVs, starred Liam Neeson and his son. The new LG G5 smartphone commercial features Jason Statham, a lot of Jason Stathams. The LG marketing people apparently have a thing for action stars. LG's idea behind signing Hollywood action stars is likely to appeal to geeks.

There is nothing more relaxing for me to watch again one of Jason Statham's Transporter movies. LG got my attention to watch the LG G5 commercial, but it is too weird and not cool at all. Jason Statham appears in tons of roles and his face gets computer transplanted onto bodies including a baby in stroller. It is just too much going on and to make matters worse also in very low quality.

LG would have been much better off making a short Transporter based commercial than this collection of random Statham filled scenes.

The LG G5 modular smartphone has been released offically on April 1st. The LG G5 is unique, but can it reach a broad market? Moldularity also means complexity. The G5 might be able to carve out a niche for geeks, who want to use all the modules that LG is offering for the G5 including a VR headset.
