While Apple went retro on the iPhone SE with a huge bezel, Chinese startup Vernee shows off a 2mm thin bezel for the upcoming high-performance Apollo smartphone.

Vernee sent us another teaser for the upcoming Vernee Apollo. As reported the $399.99 Vernee Apollo runs on MediaTek's newest high-end Helio X20 10-core CPU and comes with over the top configuration including 5.5 inch 2k high definition display, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and 21.0MP Sony IMX230 rear camera.

We received several photos today showing the front part of the Apollo. On the sides the bezel is 2mm thin. Eventually smartphone will have no bezel, or have a wrap around the edge screen like the Galaxy S7 edge. The screen of the Apollo covers almost 80% of the front.

Apple for some reason is sticking with wide bezels. The iPhone SE has likely the widest bezel of any 2016 smartphone. A wide bezel just makes a phone look dated. There is a rumor that the iPhone 7 will have an edge-to-edge screen. This would make a big difference in the appearance of the new iPhone.

The Verenee Apollo is supposed to ship within the next months. Vernee has started to sell the Thor smartphone. It is available at a discount right now selling for $99.99 instead of $119.99. The Vernee Thor runs on a 8-core MediaTek MT6753 1.3GHz CPU, 3GB RAM and 16GB storage.
