Say it ain't so! Ian Somerhalder revealed during his most recent appearance on Sunday that The Vampire Diaries will end after season 8.

“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” the actor, 37, who plays Damon Salvatore on the supernatural CW drama, made the announcement at the Nashville WalkerStalkerCon.

Earlier this week, Kat Graham announced that she would be leaving the show after season 8.

“Season 8 will be my last season,” she said. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family.”

Graham plays witch Bonnie Bennet added “But you know what, another season is a whole other year, and we’re going to blow it out.”

The CW renewed the series for its eighth and final season in March. The network hasn't officially confirmed that it will come to an end, it certainly seems like the actors, writers, and many fans are ready to say goodbye to Mystic Falls.

As Somerhalder told fans on Sunday, "My role is shifting in the show and we have a lot to do."
