The latest ultra-high definition time lapse video shows Northern Lights as seen from space.

The International Space Station may have beamed back several spectacular images and videos over the years, but the newly released ultra high definition video of Northern Lights is simply out of this world.

NASA has recently released an epic time lapse video of Northern and Southern Lights shot from the space and this five-minute video has been created by combining frames taken at different intervals to show the changes taking place in dancing lights over the time.

Northern Lights, also called Aurora Borealis, are bright lights usually seen in the high altitude regions and the phenomena occur when electrically charged particles from the Sun interacts with Earth’s upper atmosphere.

Northern Lights are witnessed in Northern latitudes while Southern Lights or Aurora Australis can be seen at high elevations of Antarctica, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand and Australia. However, both look remarkably beautiful. The view becomes even more spectacular when it is seen from 250 miles above Earth. The latest video represents what exactly Northern Lights look like when they are seen by astronauts from the space.

The footage is exclusively produced for NASA TV by Harmonic and was released on April, 17.
