This is How to Get AMP on Your Wordpress Site in 5 Minutes
AMP Example

With Google featuring AMP pages inside Google News, there is more need than ever to adopt AMP. Here is how to get your Wordpress site AMPlified in 5 minutes.

Google has launched the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project (AMP) in October of last year. In February the AMP enabled pages started to be featured in the mobile search results on Google. As reported, this week the Google added the AMP carousel in Google News as well.

If you have not implemented AMP yet, you can get it up and running on Wordpress in less than 5 minutes. First find the free AMP plugin by Wordpress maker Auttomatic and install it. You are actually done. All your posts are now AMPlified. You can see the AMP version appending /amp/ at the end of the url of the a post (example). Out of the box the AMP plugin is generating AMP pages that are not displaying the logo, featured image, and also don't show any of your advertising.

Auttomatic provides some code snippets to ad the featured image and display the site logo on an AMP page on GitHub. The code needs to be placed in the functions.php file in the theme folder of your active Wordpress theme.

I have extended the code snippets provided with some lines adding a Google Adsense ad at the end of a post. AMP supports about 20 ad networks. You can find the implementation details for each of these on the AMP Project site. AMP pages do not accept any Javascript code. The ad units are implemented as tags (amp-ad) that are processed by the AMP engine to display ads.

This is it. You got now AMP implemented with your logo, featured images and ads.

You can find the complete code to add to functions.php here. Please remember to edit the url of the logo, the data-ad-client and the data-ad-slot in the ad unit.
