Berlin based startup Senic raised $500,000 in a crowdfunding campaign for a smart home controller last year. As the Nuimo ships to the first backers, the company released a video documenting the making of the device.

Making a new product is difficult. Berlin based startup Senic shows how it is done in an insightful video documenting how the company made a stylish smart home controller from scratch.

Nuimo can control your favorite smart home devices including smart speakers, lights and thermostats. Instead of browsing through several apps and steps on the phone, Nuimo uses simple and natural interactions to control smart devices. Nuimo uses haptic feedback, a touch surface, a high precision ring, contactless gesture recognition and an LED matrix to work with devices and services such as Sonos Speakers, Philips Hue Lightbulbs, Soundcloud, Spotify and many more.

The Senic Nuimo is shipping now to its first 5,000 backers. The pre-order for the June release wave is already almost sold out. The $159 Nuimo device is planned for general retail availability in summer of 2016.

The video below is inspiring for people who think about creating a new product or are in the middle of it. You will also learn that the cool startup people in Berlin don't wear shoes.

About Nuimo
Nuimo uses Bluetooth to connect and control devices like Sonos Speakers, Philips Hue Lights or software applications like Spotify or Adobe Creative Suite and many more. The four main inputs include a high precision analog ring, capacitive touch surface, physical click button and contactless gesture recognition that allows hands-free control. Nuimo also includes a 9x9 LED matrix that can show simple visual information on its surface.

Nuimo ships with a simple setup app for iOS, OS X and Android. After unpacking Nuimo, just download the app and it will automatically find all your smart home devices giving you immediate control. All device integrations come with pre-sets that are easy to use out-of-the-box – and more devices can always be added through your smartphone or computer. Users with multiple smart devices can sync them as a “scene” for each room in their home with Nuimo. The controller ships with over 30 supported smart devices and apps.
