Derek Hough may have some busy months ahead of him. While he is slated to open "Singin' in the Rain" on Broadway in January, it looks like he might be pushing that back so he can get a little Corny on TV first.

Hough will play Corny Collins in NBC's live musical production of "Hairspray." James Marsden famously played the character in the big screen version. Just last night, Matthew Morrison threw his hat in the ring for the role, but it looks like it was already booked.

In absolutely perfect casting, Martin Short will play Wilbur Turnblad, Edna's husband. It was previously announced that Harvey Fierstein will play the role of Edna Turnblad, something that fans of the musical have been more than happy about. Jennifer Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle, though many fans are disappointed in that casting, because the role of Maybelle is usually played by a larger actress.

"We are very happy to have the inimitable Martin Short to play Edna's loving husband, Wilbur," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "We welcome Marty to the network in May in his new variety show with Maya Rudolph and we think he will be the perfect long-term companion to Harvey's Edna. And hands-down the best dancer on television and one of the best in the entertainment business, Derek Hough, will be perfect in the role of Corny Collins, the cocky song-and-dance-man who hosts the TV show every teenager in Baltimore wants to be on."

Hough currently recurs on Broadway and choreographs some of today's best dances. Short is nothing short of an icon, having starred in film, theater, and TV. He's best known for his work on SNL.

NBC is currently searching for an unknown actress to take on the role of Tracy Turnblad in the 1960s-set musical.

According to USA Today, Alex Rudzinski and Kenny Leon will direct with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron serve as executive producers. Fierstein will write a new teleplay and Jerry Mitchell is choreographing with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Hairspray Live! will film in Los Angeles and air on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
