  • A Three Dimensional Movie of our Planet Earth as Seen from Outer Space

Finally, a three dimensional movie of our planet earth as seen from outer space has been made.

A brand new movie has been made and it is called “A Beautiful Planet”. Its footage was taken by astronauts from on board the ISS. The film both shows how daily living occurs on the space station and the breathtaking images of the earth from its vantage point.

This film had been displayed for all to see in IMAX theaters on April 29th. More than a year’s time span of footage will be included in this documentary of sorts.

The rare images of earth as it sits ensconced in the context of space is beautifully captured in the photos seen in the documentary. Also precious insights into the daily routines aboard the ISS will be featured in the film.

The narrative is dealt with by Jennifer Lawrence. The impact we humans have had on the earth and its environment is exposed clearly for all to see. NASA and IMAX have both hooked up in the past to create documentaries.

The Dream is Alive was about the space shuttle program. Also Blue Planet was made which showed a transforming earth from space, according to Space.com.

The veteran astronaut Marsha Ivins flew on five space shuttle missions. She was responsible for making videos for IMAX from space. This woman gave tips to astronauts regarding filming from the context of space.

She spoke recently about how when gazing out the portholes of a spacecraft, you are far away from the home planet, yet you can still see the frame of the porthole from which you are seeing the earth. IMAX takes the frame away and allows you to gaze into space directly. It is almost like going out and floating in space.

Among the sights shown by the documentary are: crew coming on board and disembarking from the spacecraft, astronauts eating the lettuce grown on board the ISS as well as many other moments of interest.

The majority of the filming occurred on weekends and during the leisure time which the astronauts got to enjoy intermittently. Ivins joked that if an alien life form happened to knock at your window, you ought not to shoot it in cold blood. The IMAX movie is approximately 45 minutes in length. It presents the earth and human beings on it and their place in the universe.
