Maze Runner third installment production put on hold due to injuries sustained by Dylan O’Brien during shooting of the film and will only resume after his recovery.

20th Century Fox hit a major jackpot when the first part of the Maze Runner was released. This dystopian neo noir action thriller featuring Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien, Skins’ Kaya Scodelario and Narnia’s Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

The movie was met with great critical and public acclaim which led to the second part Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in 2015 and the studio commissioned a third part as well which was set to be released next year.

The movie was presently shooting when the leading man Dylan O’ Brien was badly injured when he was hit by another vehicle while riding on a motorcycle for one of his stunts in the movie.

The resulting injuries include, concussion, facial fracture and lacerations. The production was put on hold while he was treated and given a break to recover from his injuries. However, the studio learned that O’Brien’s injuries are worse than they anticipated and it is going to take longer to recover properly.

The studio issued a statement in which they said that the major photography on the Maze Runner: Death Cure (the title of the movie) is on hold for the reason of letting Dylan O’Brien recuperate. His own publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed that Dylan needed more time to recover.

The standing worries for the studio remain to be the extension of the hiatus. They cannot continue without Dylan of course but if his recovery extends to months, it will be harder to reassemble the other cast members. The delay will also cause disruption with the release of the movie which is set at February 17, 2017. Considering that the movie will be facing some tough competition from other movies set to release on that date including Sony's The Dark Tower, Warner Bros.' Fist and Universal's The Great Wall. Then there is the question that if the production does not restart, the movie might not release at all.

With that bearing in mind, all Maze Runner fans and the studios are wishing and hoping for Dylan’s speedy recovery.
