It is being said that a fully-functional near-infrared spectroscopy neuroimaging gadget, termed NIRSIT, visualizes brain activation regions in the prefrontal area of the brain in real time.

Termed NIRSIT, the near-infrared spectroscopy neuroimaging device is about to change the landscape and mindscape of neuroscience. The medical establishment will no longer be the same. This gizmo will offer a high degree of spatial and temporal resolution. It was in Korea that scientists came up with this contraption in synch with the NAIS Lab.

Professor Hyeon-Min Bae of the Electrical Engineering Department and researchers at OBELAB, a spin-off startup of NAIS Lab (hereinafter "the KAIST team"), has led the Nanoscale Advanced Integrated Systems (NAIS) Lab Team at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) that launch its first NIRS device, NIRSIT, to the neuroimaging world.

NIRSIT will use light to discover hemodynamic changes in the brain’s blood flow. It will also be able to picture brain activation areas in the prefrontal cortex.

While other similar devices built by other companies have a resolution of 3cm X 3cm, NIRSIT has a maximum resolution of 0.4cm X 0.4cm. This is like a functional MRI device.

It happens to be the only device of its kind which can be used for brain discoveries and general research. The device is not only portable but wireless to boot.

Furthermore, a software application allows the data to be displayed on a monitor screen. The team which built this gadget visited a conference held in Chicago last week. There a live demonstration of this device in its fully-functional state was given to the rest of the gathered audience.

The onlookers gained a better appreciation of this device once they saw it functioning in a hunky dory manner. As for the results from this contraption, they are solid proof of its viability as a neuroscientific supplementing device.

NIRSIT research will come in handy for applications in cognitive science. Until now, MRI scans have been used by researchers and it is a leading edge technology. NIRSIT is about to change all this though. It allows such functions as mankind has hardly known in the past.

NIRSIT works in an intuitive manner. It is a wonderful device. Besides the 3D imagery it is responsible for, there are the oxy-deoxy graphs which are on display in this gadget. These comprise the prefrontal area of the human brain.

The team of researchers responsible for building NIRSIT from scratch say that it will extend mankind’s abilities and capabilities. It has highly pliable features and an ergonomic design. Whether seen from a hardware or software angle, this device is tops.
