The next gadget with the Alexa voice assistant is called Amazon Knight.

Just when Google is about to unveil Google Home, a competitor to Amazon Echo, Amazon is rumored to already work on the next generation voice assistant called Amazon Knight.

Update: An image of the Amazon Echo Knight leaked, a year after the initial rumor about the Echo Knight with touchscreen.

Amazon Knight is supposed to be an Alexa-powered tablet. Knight is an internal name says a report on the Wall Street Journal. The idea is that users can use voice to browse the web when their hands are not free or dirty.

Amazon Knight will just be yet another voice controlled smart device. Voice is considered the next user interface for everything. Amazon has already opened up the Alexa platform to developers and is even funding startups to use their platform. Google is expected to announce similar plans today at the Google I/O 2016 keynote.

Amazon has already established the Alexa platform with lots of connectors, enabling Amazon Echo users to call an Uber, order a Pizza, shop on Amazon, hear the latest news, weather and control their home.

In March Amazon added Amazon Tap and Amazon Dot to the Echo line-up. The new Amazon Tap is an Alexa-enabled portable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi speaker that offers rich, full-range sound. The Echo Dot is a hands-free, voice controlled device that uses the same far-field voice recognition as Echo.
