Nintendo's President revealed in an Interview plans of the company to become the next Pixar.

While Lego already figured out that movies are a great way to sell stuff, Nintendo hasn't really made that connection yet. Movies are though the ideal extension to make Nintendo a media powerhouse and not a pure video game player relying on the success of each console they release.

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said in an interview this week that the company is negotiating with a number of movie production companies around the world in search of a partner for full-fledged filmmaking.

“We want to do as much as we can by ourselves,” Kimishima told The Asahi Shimbun.

Nintendo has been involved in movies before but has not fully engaged and only entertained licensing deals.

Kimishima did not reveal any details, but hinted that the Nintendo movies would be 3D animated feature films staring one of its most popular characters e.g. Zelda's Link or Mario.

It will still take two to three years until the first Nintendo produced movie.
