Xiaomi Mi Drone Teaser is the Cutest Thing

Chinese consumer electronics company is expected to release a drone 2016. Today the first teaser surfaced in China.

Xiaomi unveiled the 4K Mi Box Android TV box yesterday at the Google I/O 2016. Today the company has started to tease their next big product launch. The Xiaomi drone is expected to be released this year and the launch could be just around the corner.

Update: The Xiaomi Mi Drone will be unveiled on May 25.

The first teaser for the Xiaomi drone, posted on Chinese social media service Weibo, shows a simple wooden propeller stick. That's neat, but what does Xiaomi want to tell us with this? It could mean that the Xiaomi Mi drone will be very easy to use. As as easy as spinning a propeller stick.

GizChina reports that a Xiaomi Drone app briefly showed up in app stores earlier this week revealing 4K video capabilities. This would mean the Xiaomi Mi drone has a built-in video camera.

The timing of the teaser release likely means that the first Xiaomi Mi drone goes still on sale this month. Xiaomi is likely targeting a price that is lower than that of the DJI Phantom 3 drone.

The Phantom 3 supports 4K video and has a list price of $1,259. It is though on sale for less than $900 on Amazon.com. I predict that the first Mi drone will have a price of under $500. Earlier rumors said that the Xiaomi drone would only cost $100, but the 4K support makes that low price questionable.

Xiaomi will launch the Mi drone first in China. It could take until fall until the company will offer their drone in the United States.

The drone market is dominated by Chinese companies like DJI. Xiaomi's entry in the drone market will further cement China's lead in drones.
