Ahead of the May 25 event, China's Xiaomi released a video showing the new Mi Drone. Watch the Mi drone video below.

The Xiaomi Mi Drone will be unveiled on May 25. Today Xiaomi released a teaser video revealing the some of the design details of the Mi drone.

The company started to tease the company's first drone last week. The invite to the Xiaomi UAV event shows a black drone. The Mi drone featured in the teaser video below is white. Xiaomi's first drone is a quad copter and the camera module has the shape of a sphere.

As reported, the Xiaomi Mi Drone can record 4K video. This important tidbit has been revealed through the Mi Drone app that briefly was available in app stores in China.

The Mi Drone is therefore not a cheap toy. The first Xiaomi Drone is likely to challenge DJI in the semi-professional mid-range. The price of the Mi drone depends highly on the key capabilities such as range.

Besides the 4K video recording feature, the Xiaomi Drone is also believed to support optical flow positioning technology. Optical flow would allow the Mi drone to automatically hold the camera onto moving objects.

Xiaomi will launch the Mi drone first in China. It could take until fall until the company will offer their drone in the United States.

The drone market is dominated by Chinese companies like DJI. Now Xiaomi is set to further enhance the drone market share of Chinese manufacturers. DJI's Phantom drone is also likely the direct target of Xiaomi's Mi drone. The Mi Drone will be unveiled in live event on May 25, 7pm local time (7am ET).

The requirement to register a drone apparently has not impacted the demand for drones. The new generation of drones get smarter and are easier to fly as drones are equipped with sensors and auto pilot features. At the same time the demand for drone defense is growing. Systems like offered by Dedrone can protect the airspace of private or corporate properties.
