Reddit Image Upload Launched

Say good-bye to links to Imgur on reddit.

Reddit has started to roll out an image upload feature. When redditors want to submit now an image of a the weirdest, cutest cat you'll ever see, they can hit the new Upload A File button. The image will be the uploaded to reddit's server. Redditor's will not have to use other image hosting services anymore like the popular with redditor's imgur.

For imgur the new reddit image feature will mean loss of lots and lots of traffic. There is though also often the case that an image goes viral on imgur and is then linked on reddit. This will still be going on going forward.

In a reddit changelog post, the reddit team stated that the initial roll out of the upload feature is in beta to 16 default communities across Reddit. The feature will available to 50 more next week. In this iteration, native image hosting will support single image and gif uploads. Upload images (up to 20MB) and gifs (100MB) are supported.

These are the communities you can try it in: GetMotivated, EarthPorn, Gaming, Space, OldSchoolCool, Sports, Art, Aww, Dataisbeautiful, Food, Funny, Gifs, mildlyinteresting, movies, photoshopbattles, pics
