A UN report on the Great Barrier Reef had the oddity of having all the Aussie references censored from it to the dismay and anger of its author.

The author of a UN report on the Great Barrier Reef has expressed surprise and shock upon learning that every reference to Australia was bowdlerized from the final draft. This is preposterous yet it happens to be true.

The Australian government must have intervened which led to the portions mentioning the country being expurgated from the last sample of the document.

Chapters in the report that dealt with the Great Barrier Reef and Kakadu and the Tasmanian forests were deleted at the last minute before the report went into publication.

The Australian government doesn’t want to harm its tourism industry so it has taken this drastic step. The Union of Concerned Scientists issued an unbiased statement on the matter today, Guardian reported.

The largest danger to the Great Barrier Reef is global warming. This fact alone is ruining the ecosystem balance, the biodiversity, the heritage and tourism surrounding the region in the Land Down Under.

The sea temperatures were getting hotter and hotter, sea levels were rising higher and higher, weather trends were changing for the worse and acid was accumulating in the oceans.

Many have said that it was a big disappointment that parts of the report were expunged before it came out in the open. Also to add insult to injury, a number of parts of other stories that had appeared in the report were gotten rid of along with any mention of Australia. The Australian government is acting in a manner similar to the proverbial ostrich with its head in the sand.

The experts have pointed out that the critical information that had been censored from the document could easily be read in the newspapers or journals anytime by anybody.

So what was all the hush campaign about? The information in the report would have in fact been good for Australia since it would have been an eye opener for the government which was sitting back and taking things with a grain of salt.

Several conservation groups such as Greenpeace have expressed shock and anger at the Australian government’s reprehensible action. It is simply not fair and very high-handed in nature.

Others have labeled the move as jaw-dropping in its nature. The Great Barrier Reef is in grave danger and to hide this is to avoid facing the bitter truth.
