Research have shown that on average a commuter wastes more than 50 hours per year.

The American population is increasing alarmingly and so is its need for transportation. Due to low fuel prices in the U.S and a lower unemployment rate, more people are able to buy their own transportation.

More people can afford to buy their own cars and prefer to go to places in their private cars. Along with these things, public transportation has increased by many folds in the past few years as well.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, Americans drove more than three trillion miles in the year 2015. This is a huge distance which means a number of vehicles and gallons of fuel were utilized as well. Although transport has become easier, the cost of this freedom is being stuck on roads in traffic for long hours.

According to traffic data in the U.S, congestion in cities is causing traffic to be worse on more roads. A Seattle based company released some astonishing figures that said that Americans tend to waste more time on roads being stuck in traffic then in any other country.

If one is living in Los Angeles, then it means that he or she will waste 81 hours in traffic as it is the worst city for traffic in the United States. If you are living in Washington D.C or San Francisco, it again is not easy for you to drive around. People driving here waste 75 hours per year on average while being stuck in traffic.

According to global figures (via AutoBlog), London is the worst city in terms of traffic blocking. Londoners on average waste up to 101 hours per year. However American cities have gotten all the other top five spots for the worst traffic in the world. American Highway companies are looking for strategies in order to improve the traffic situations for the generations to come.
