Microsoft unveiled a week ahead of the E3 2016 the new features coming to the Xbox One this summer.

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra and Larry Hryb unveiled the new features coming to Xbox One, a week ahead of the highly anticipated Microsoft E3 2016 media event. The announcement of the new Xbox One summer update ahead of the E3 event supports the notion that Microsoft has something big to unveil at the E3, which could be the rumored new Xbox Scorpio console for VR.

The new Xbox One summer update will help you stay connected with friends on Xbox Live and enjoy even more games across your favorite devices. Cortana will come to Xbox One; the Xbox and Windows Stores will start to become unified; we will begin to introduce your top PC games with Game Hubs to Xbox Live, and more.

Cortana on the Xbox One is the biggest feature of the coming update and looks rather useful. You can asks things like what is major Nelson doing right now during game play and Cortana will tell you what game he is playing right now.

Cortana is coming to Preview in the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Germany and Spain first, and gamers can expect the familiar Cortana experience found on other Windows 10 devices.

Cortana voice commands on Xbox One will work with both headsets and Kinect. You’ll be able to use Cortana to find great new games, see what your friends are up to, start a party, accomplish common tasks, turn on your Xbox One if you’re using Kinect, and more.

Microsoft continues to build Cortana features over time and their vision is to use Cortana to help elevate your experience as your personal digital assistant for gaming. Just say “Hey Cortana” or launch the app to get started.

Microsoft Preview members can start to experience the Xbox One summer update this week. Microsoft will roll out updates in waves until the full release later in summer.
