Adidas To Launch Shoes Made From Ocean Plastic Later This Year

Adidas will soon be launching a shoe which has a sole made up from up-cycled ocean plastic in collaboration with Parley, which is an anti-ocean pollution organization. The shoe was originally a one off concept shoe and the company gave us our first peek at it late last year.

It had a 3D printed midsole made from up-cycled ocean plastic. The product will be launched under the name of Adidas x Parley. The shoes will be limited edition with the upper part made up from Parley Ocean plastic as well as illegal deep sea gillnets recovered by the nonprofit Sea Shepherd as part of a mission to preserve sea life in the Southern Ocean.

The launch will happen around Oceans Day with only 50 pairs of the shoe given to customers through an Instagram contest. What is more thrilling then the availability of the limited edition shoe is the fact that Adidas has promised to come up with a commercial product soon. According to the company it will be the first time that Parley Ocean Plastic will be integrated into one of its best foot wear franchise.

This will be happening around the second half of the year due to the intrusion Adidas and Parley have made in converting Ocean plastic to technical yarn fibers which can easily be used to make products. The new shoe is another attempt by the company to become more environmentally friendly.

It has already made the announcement that it will cease giving out plastic bags in store and stop the use of microbeads in its products such as shower gels. You can enter the contest to win a pair of the Adidas x Parleys on July 31st. The competition will happen across the various social media channels of both Adidas and Parley with the rules made known in time.
