Apple received a patent for an iPhone with wraparound screen.

Apple received 46 new patents today reports Patently Apple. One of these patents describe an iPhone with a screen that wraps around the whole device. The drawing in the patent shows that the screen is not flat. The iPhone looks somewhat like a flattened soda can. This screen design has more surface, but it has questionable usability.

Many of these patents are just ways to protect anticipated future designs. If an iPhone like shown above will ever be a product remains to be seen.

Flexible displays are seen as the next big thing in smartphones. Apple has filed this patent has been filed years ago. Samsung has shown off concepts of foldable smartphones and is reportedly planning to release two foldable smartphones in 2017. Reports from the Asian supply chain say that display makers are getting ready to mass produce flexible AMOLED displays for products to be released next year.

Apple is rumored to adopt OLED displays in the 10th anniversary iPhone in 2017. This major change is likely the reason, why the iPhone 7 design is pretty much in line with the iPhone 6S design.
