A new rumor says that Apple will bundle the iPhone 7 with standard EarPods and a 3.5mm Lightning adapter.

The back and forth of rumors about the iPhone 7 headphone jack continues. The latest rumor says that there will be no 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7. Apple is supposed to bundle a Lightning adapter and standard EarPods with the new iPhone.

Instead of the headphone jack a second speaker would be located, enhancing the still mono sound of the iPhone 7. The newest iPhone 7 headphone jack rumors stems from Chinese accessory makers at the Computex Taiwan 2016 according to Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara. The blog has a good reputation, but this report is sketchy.

The Computex Taiwan ended over 2 weeks ago. Why reference the show after that long time?

This rumor is not more plausible than the rumors about Apple not dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack. In May an alleged iPhone 7 part leaked showing a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The idea that Apple is bundling an adapter instead of new EarPods with Lightning plug smells also not like Apple. An adapter is a compromise and not a solution for a flagship smartphone. I can imagine a Lightning adapter as an accessory, but the iPhone 7 needs to ship with a Lightning earbuds in case Apple indeed drops the 3.5mm headphone jack.

On Asian supply markets like Alibaba, Lightning Earbuds sell for as low as $2.50 in bulk. Apple is cheap, just think about the 16GB iPhone entry configuration, but I dear hope not that cheap.

The iPhone 7 will be unveiled most likely on September 13. The iPhone 7 features a streamlined design based on the iPhone 6S. New features include dual lens camera, A10 CPU, up to 256GB storage and Apple might finally make the iPhone water proof. A new rumor brings a Dual-SIM feature into play.

The iPhone 7 will be the last iPhone with a LCD screen. The 10th anniversary iPhone in 2017 will adopt OLED for the first time. The 2017 iPhone is rumored to adopt glass again as material. It is going to be special and this is why the iPhone 7 is sporting a new major redesign.
